Newsletter August 2025

Hello Shedders and welcome to our monthly update of our Shed.

Welcome to our new members.
Thrilled to say that Jim has joined us and we look forward to seeing more of him when he
moves to Birchington.

Clearing the Wood Shed storage area.
Huge thank you to the 6 Shedders who helped with this enormous task. So pleased to
say that within 5 hours of the skip arriving it was filled, and the area was swept out by
Chris thus completing the task set by Sarah Lewellen. We look forward to seeing her
new “Art Gallery” and wish her every success….
John was able to sell quite a few items from the store which helped towards the cost of
hiring the skip. It was agreed at the end of the job that it was indeed the correct decision
as the amount to be removed was not viable to do with separate journeys to the Tip.

Update on Shedders
We are pleased to say Alan is home from hospital and on the road to recovery and
returning as soon as he can to the Shed.
Michael (Mondays) is still on the mend and will be back as soon as he can.
Charlie is enjoying a few weeks away after his many tests, Sylv we are thinking of you
and really hope that your pain goes and you can get back asap to being your old self
rushing around. Also looking forward to Christine being back with us just for a cuppa
and chat.
Steve is back.. hip hip…

Shedders Lunch
The Boys are oS out to lunch this month. Details are on the notice board.

Ladies Craft Afternoons
This is a work in progress. We are hoping for more participation in September when our
programme will be posted and ladies invited to join. Although we haven’t had a huge
number of ladies at our coSee and chat afternoons those that came really enjoyed
themselves.

Adirondack Chairs
Clive is now making infant & junior style chairs to sell in The Secret Garden. They are so
cute. It appears there is a market from the children who attend The Forrest School in
Quex, so much so that the first one has already been sold. Clive is working with the new
Shedders, as many hands make light work…apparently!!!

Friday 15th August
We will be at Dog Acre from 10.00 – 16.00hrs for the Multi-Agency Community
Information Day. Jason Gordon – Community Warden invited us to join in.
John and I will be there and plan on showing oS Fred’s Pens. These are easy for us to
transport and are a great way of encouraging people to try a new hobby.
We will also be encouraging people to come along to a workshop which might lead to
them becoming part of the team.

Charity Mentor
Penny has the last meeting with our Charity funding mentor on Monday.
3 Grants will have been applied for. She has not found it easy doing these applications,
not something an ex dental nurse/ health care worker / Mother of 5 has much expertise
in !!!
But it’s a learning curve. Just the pressure—that’s not fun !!!

Ideas Wanted
The Secret Garden have asked us to produce some Christmas items for them to sell. We
have shown Susan our Christmas Trees and Angels but are looking for some ideas that
are fairly simple to produce in wood.
Well enjoy August, I’m sure you all have lots going on with family and friends visiting
etc., not to mention all the Grandparent duties. May the sun shine upon you all.
