Well there is a lot going on at present in our Shed so this newsletter might be full of a few bullet points.
First we extend a very warm welcome to our new Shedders, Kevin and Ian. Both have managed to fit in very nicely with you lot!!
We continue to wish Sylv a speedy recovery as she is still suffering with her very painful knee. Happy to say singing Al is back to top form !
- Wild Wood have asked us to construct a Sleigh. This is now underway.
- Birchington in Bloom asked for our help restoring a boat by the billboards on Canterbury Road. After inspection we found that it is not feasible for us to undertake but we can make them the planter for it.
- Dog Acre – Warden Jason’s event. This was very successful, and we met several people who have come forward to help. Not only that they have actually done so. This includes Anne who helped with a document and Kevin who has joined us and is willing to be a shedder and take on The Treasurers role by the new year.
- Repair and Revamp is a new Initiative starting in October. This will be on Thursday afternoons twice a month mainly for the ladies.
- Workshops start again in October with a Ladies DIY as we have had several requests after advertising in Parish Magazine.
- There will be a list on the notice board of things to prepare for Christmas and very happy to say we are well under way with the Christmas Trees.
- Chair sales going well and we now have orders for March 2026, when Clive and Co. will be restarting production.
- Due to the Chef unable to work that day, the men’s lunch had to be postponed. It is hoped to re book asap.
- Christmas Lunch date is planned for Friday 12th December at 12.30 At The Powell.
The model train Shedders have now moved to Broadstairs. It has been extremely difficult over the past few months for them using the small area in The Shed. Also coping with the sawdust and lack of space, none of which is conducive to running a successful model railway. Fortunately, the boys with Mark and Michaels Faints help have been able to relocate to Maurice House in Broadstairs where many of the residents will benefit enormously from having the stimulation of new volunteers and an excellent model layout to work with. We wish them every success in the near future and thank them for the wonderful way they organised their departure from the shed. As all the track and associated items were donated to the Shed it was decided amongst those involved to pass on the donation to The Royal British Legion Home.
We welcome all your ideas for the layout of the Shed now that a large space has appeared. Any kitchen units /wall cabinets would also be appreciated.
Also, we now need to arrange the days at the Shed as it is not practical to have too many members working at the same time. Although now we will have space for a proper table to sit and work, chat or comfortably enjoy a drink.
A committee meeting has been arranged for Friday 12th September to discuss this and the secondment of the new Treasurer. Also to arrange the date for the AGM in January for election of your committee. If you would like items added to either Agenda, please contact John or Penny.
Well, that’s plenty for us to be going on with this month and we are certainly looking forward to a very happy and healthy month ahead.
can’t understand why the railway people have left the shed as it appeared to be a thriving part of your advertised activity’s.
Been offered a whole room in the Veteran Centre.
